Art

Tile from a recent #eniOkenArtClub class, "Bucky and Friends", with Ratoon, Bucky, Pickpocket (ribbon variation), Patakon, and Wyfore-wings. Really enjoyed the amount of embellishments and the opportunities for shading.

Art

Tangle done during #eniOkenArtClub, in a session where we discussed "tangle matchmaking". This uses the "walk by the pond" string, with Wartz, Opus, and Fescu, as well as a low-contrast Patena in the background.

Bookmark created as part of #eniOkenArtClub this week. Features Bailerene, Bownus, Verdigogh, Bronx Cheer, and Mooka. 2.5x6 inches, ink and graphite.

Art

Tile done during an #eniOkenArtClub class the past two weeks. We were playing with dimensional techniques, both while creating the drawing, and then with shading. Really enjoyed the low contrast background, which we did completely with graphite and tortillon.

Back to basics tile done during #eniOkenArtClub this week.

We did a retrospective of 2022, and then did the standard Z string, incorporating the various strokes and techniques we found ourselves favoring or drawn to (pun intended!) this past year.

For myself, I noted that I've used a lot of i and c strokes (lines and curves) this past year. Additionally, I've been using auras a ton, and, more interestingly, using them to create weaves.

Compositionally, I've been using negative space more, and incorporating straight lines more often (often due to usage of auras). I also spent a lot of study in tangle transitions; Eni has a wonderful course on this subject, and then ended up doing a multi-part series this year in Art Club due to my interest in them.

Finally, a technique we've discussed during club is how the four points and border for a tile... don't have to be always creating a uniform area. We experimented a few times with tiles where the border was close to the edge, smaller than normal, or even not parallel to the edges at all.

I incorporated all of these ideas into this tile, and I'm super pleased with the outcome. Hoping it's the beginning of another wonderful year of art exploration!

Quick drawing from today. This past week in #eniOkenArtClub, we played with Dillo, and member Lisa Goldman came up with a new tangleation, Dillo-tant.

This one includes Dillo-tant, plus a blossom version made by combining Dillo with techniques from Kensington. In the background is another variant we came up with in class.

Art

Really proud of this one. Wrapped frame with Arukas, done during an #eniOkenArtClub class this week. Deep deep shading with fine detail.

Ink and graphite.

First tangle I've felt like posting in a while. Utilizes the tangles Truly, Noom, and Arukas (latter 2 we worked with during #eniOkenArtClub this week), and includes both black and light gray ink with graphite.

Another tile based on a lesson a couple weeks ago in #eniokenartclub - featuring Marola, Bailarine, and Shoufleur. Really enjoyed the small details and crazy shading challenges of this one!

Art

Tile drawn as part of a session of #eniokenartclub - I went a bit of a different direction, but the tile has most of the elements we worked on in class (Marola, Shoufleur, and Bailarine in a triangle string). Quite happy with the final product!

Art

Tile from a class in #eniokenartclub with @enioken - bridge transitions. I went a bit off-script, but really enjoyed the techniques presented. Tangles include Bales, Sedgwick, Jaysix, and Mooka-3D.

Ink with graphite.

Three years tangling!

The past two years, I've worked on something to commemorate the occasion; this year, I've been so crazy busy it didn't hit me until I was halfway done shading this tile.

I've come a long way, largely due to the wonderful #eniokenartclub and our gracious instructor, @enioken herself. Thanks, Eni - I'm a better artist because of you!

Completed tile. Tangles include Mooka 3D, Molygon towers, and Rixty trees. Background made of distress inks by my wife, @jwodesignsmixedmedia - media includes ink, graphite, pastel, colored pencil, and gel pen.

Many thanks to #eniokenartclub for critique and advice and being a fantastic artist community!

Another wonderful session in #eniokenartclub - so much zen flow, and such fun tangling all the little details!

This weekend, I took a deep dive into the tangle "Elven" by H Elena, and created an infographic to show some of the variations I discovered. (Learn how to do these infographics in #eniokenartclub !)

Faux Viking knots, from an #eniokenartclub class. This was SOOOOOO much fun to piece together, and the outcome so rewarding!

Art

Third tile using the same recipe, after feedback in #eniokenartclub - really pleased with the motion in this one! Progression of tiles in the second image.

Finally finished up this tangle I began a few weeks ago, adding a border (as learned in #eniokenartclub).

#inktobertangles2020 Day 19: Molygon. This one was directly inspired by last week's #eniokenartclub session on articulated Molygon towers.

Art

#inktobertangles2020 Day 18: B'Twined. I have a love/hate relationship with grid patterns, but I love how organic this one looks.

Snuck in a Molygon tower, as learned in #eniokenartclub earlier this week, even using a watercolor pencil and water brush - things I'd never have considered before!

Art

#inktobertangles2020 Day 14: Iugo. Applied lessons learned from #eniokenartclub earlier this week during the Molygon towers lesson - extreme decoration!

Art

#inktobertangles2020 Day 10: Cadent. Still a day behind, but should catch up today. This one was in part inspired by @zentangleinc project pack 8, but also owes heavily to the line weight and fearless shading lessons from #eniokenartclub
