Quick tangle using #Gourdgeous in a hand-sewn journal I created recently, and using some new Derwent Drawing pencils — they are a wax-based colored pencil that blend more like graphite, allowing me to use familiar techniques to get something other than black/gray/white. I used a maroon Micron PN for the inks.

This was a fun challenge from #TangleBirds - actually two separate ones, but the big one was to use an Ogee grid, which I typically struggle with. This one I chose to ditch symmetricality, and suddenly had a ton of fun playing with - lots of spaces for embellishments and deep shading.

My wife gave me a gift card to Blick for my birthday a few months ago. I finally used it, and part of the order was a full sheet of Fabriano Tiepolo paper, the stuff official zentangle tiles are made from. It was my first time using the paper (surprisingly, I've never purchased official tiles!), and it was pure fun! That said, I found pencils definitely reacted differently, and I had to try a few different ones to get the deeper shadows I wanted. Looking forward to more tiles!
