More map tangling, with a combination of blues and reds. I've been creating bijou cards from all of my step outs the last few months, and finished the "H" tangles this weekend - so Crazy Huggins, Hurry, and Hollis all made an appearance here.
My process has become:
- Create the color area using liquid water colors.
- Tangle over it. Always tangle to the edge of the color.
- Continue embellishing with ink.
- First pass shading using Derwent Drawing pencils in appropriate colors.
- Use a black colored pencil to darken the corners and overlaps.
- Highlights using jelly roll or acrylic pen.
The color area becomes my "tile", and whatever primary tangle I choose becomes the string. They're very dramatic, but I definitely lose some composition opportunities. Still enjoy the process, though!

More map tangling, this time with reds and purples. I created a raffle using Eni Oken's Art Raffle app as my starting point, with the tangles Qurtuba, Gust, Sedgling, and Orb Pods, along with the enhancer "Grafting".
Besides the fluid water color, I used a maroon Micron PN, Derwent Drawing pencils, a black polychromous, and a white acrylic pen.

More map tangling.
I used a combination of Sepia, light orange, and Vermillion watercolors as the base. Inks were done with a Sepia Micron PN and a 0.1 brown Derwent line maker. I used a Sepia Derwent drawing pencil to shade, and a 08 white jelly roll pen for highlights. The page itself is from a hand-bound journal I put together a couple weeks ago.

Diving into map tangling, following a short course from @zenlinea. I picked up a set of Ecoline liquid watercolors during a weekend getaway recently, and created the color spread from a combo of 3 of the colors. Tangles include #idoz, #tipple, and gems, with embellishments that include #sez and #joki.
Watercolor, ink, jelly roll, and colored pencil (for shading).

Quick tangle using #Gourdgeous in a hand-sewn journal I created recently, and using some new Derwent Drawing pencils — they are a wax-based colored pencil that blend more like graphite, allowing me to use familiar techniques to get something other than black/gray/white. I used a maroon Micron PN for the inks.

This was a fun challenge from #TangleBirds - actually two separate ones, but the big one was to use an Ogee grid, which I typically struggle with. This one I chose to ditch symmetricality, and suddenly had a ton of fun playing with - lots of spaces for embellishments and deep shading.
And there's a hidden word, if you look carefully.
Ink, graphite, and colored pencils.

The tile I created today as part of International Day of Zentangle, a monotangle of #idoz - which was debuted today by Rick and Maria in a live stream. Really fell in love with the organic overlapping nature of it,.and the possibilities for embellishments.

Weekend #TangleBirds raffle. Started with an amoeba string, and used Trelina and Oybay, with some super tiny Shiloh embellishments.

First triangular tile I've done, based on a #TangleBirds raffle, including the tangles Morrisseau, Drupes, Moon Pie, and Finery, with the enhancers "distort fragment" and uneven spacing.
Ink, graphite, colored pencil, and watercolor pencil.

Memorial Day weekend tangle, with a #tangleBirds raffle prompt that included using a tangle as a string (I used Spoken), gust, sworbs, tagh, and crease, with the enhancers of decorative borders and small gems.
Really enjoyed how the blend between sworbs, crease, and the gems appeared.

Tangle done during #eniOkenArtClub, in a session where we discussed "tangle matchmaking". This uses the "walk by the pond" string, with Wartz, Opus, and Fescu, as well as a low-contrast Patena in the background.

Tile done during an #eniOkenArtClub class the past two weeks. We were playing with dimensional techniques, both while creating the drawing, and then with shading. Really enjoyed the low contrast background, which we did completely with graphite and tortillon.

Zentangle Back to Basics, 2022 Retrospective
This week in Eni Oken's Art Club, we did a 2022 retrospective, and went back to basics with a standard Z-string tile. Here are my reflections and thoughts.

Really proud of this one. Wrapped frame with Arukas, done during an #eniOkenArtClub class this week. Deep deep shading with fine detail.
Ink and graphite.

Another tile based on a lesson a couple weeks ago in #eniokenartclub - featuring Marola, Bailarine, and Shoufleur. Really enjoyed the small details and crazy shading challenges of this one!

Tile drawn as part of a session of #eniokenartclub - I went a bit of a different direction, but the tile has most of the elements we worked on in class (Marola, Shoufleur, and Bailarine in a triangle string). Quite happy with the final product!

Tile from a class in #eniokenartclub with @enioken - bridge transitions. I went a bit off-script, but really enjoyed the techniques presented. Tangles include Bales, Sedgwick, Jaysix, and Mooka-3D.

Three years tangling!
The past two years, I've worked on something to commemorate the occasion; this year, I've been so crazy busy it didn't hit me until I was halfway done shading this tile.
I've come a long way, largely due to the wonderful #eniokenartclub and our gracious instructor, @enioken herself. Thanks, Eni - I'm a better artist because of you!

Many thanks to #eniokenartclub for critique and advice and being a fantastic artist community!

I've been doing the #zentangle #pp07 all week, but finally took time to just tangle something on my own today. This one brings in the Zingsplat + peppering introduced on day 3 (?), and the Quandary-as-reticula + Wells introduced on day 7. These project packs are great for breaking me out of some of my ruts and habits!
